Training

EFDs Training Program focuses on two methods of supporting local social organizations (LSOs). First of all, EFD provides staff of LSOs with the opportunity to participate in trainings to build their capacity to deliver quality education. Each year LSOs can apply for the support under this program.

One of the LSOs that EFD supports under this component in 2010 is the Hy Vong Special Education School for Hearing Impaired Children. The objective of this project is to improve teachers’ skills and knowledge on working with disabled children. With EFDs support the Hy Vong School will organise 4 training courses for their teachers: ‘Deaf Studies Overview’, ‘Speech Therapy’, ‘Games to develop communication skills for hearing and speech impaired children’, and ‘Helping hearing and speech impaired children to develop language skills’. The four training courses will directly benefit 28 teachers and 159 children and youth in the school.

Secondly, EFD supports educational providers to improve the services that they provide to LSOs. An example of this component of EFDs Training Program is the project with the Social Development Training Center (SDTC). EFD will support SDTC in organizing relevant and affordable training courses to staff of social organizations working directly with disadvantaged children in Ho Chi Minh City and nearby provinces. Trainings are conducted by specialists in their fields and the choice of topics is decided upon as a result of feedback received from social workers. Trainings will focus on e.g. counseling skills, proposal writing, life skills for disadvantaged children/ youth etc.
